Environment Minister advises to use CFC-HFC free products for protecting ozone layer

The Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change affairs Md. Shahab Uddin said that people should come forward to prevent ozone layer depletion to be free from the effects of harmful ultraviolet rays. For this people can buy CFC free fridge and AC.

On the occasion of World Ozone Day 2023, he gave this suggestion in the opening speech of the assembly and rally in front of the National Museum in the capital on Saturday (September 16) in the morning.

The Environment Minister said that the technicians should ensure that ozone depleting substances are not emitted in the air. Media can play an important role in creating public awareness about the importance of the ozone layer and what can be done to protect it.

The minister said that under the influence of harmful ultraviolet rays, the immune system decreases with the increase of skin cancer, cataracts and other complicacies. This ozone layer is being depleted due to the effect of CFC, methane and other gases. These gases are commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems, inhalers, and in the manufacture of plastic foams. For this purpose, if we stop the use of CFC, HFC gas-containing appliances that deplete the ozone layer, it will be good for us.

Besides, the senior officers and employees of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and its subordinate agencies, representatives of Bangladesh Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Merchants Association, Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Diploma Engineers, Industrial Engineering Service and Walton Hi-tech Industries PLC were present at that time.
